Plenty of “free” KDP tools turn out to be trials, or stop working until you pay. This guide sticks to tools with a free version you can keep using, and says what that free version actually includes.

- To size up a niche while you browse Amazon: a free Chrome extension such as Niche Hound, BookBeam Extension Lite or Titans Quick View.
- For keyword ideas: AMZ Suggestion Expander, or Keyword Tool Dominator’s Amazon tool.
- To turn a sales rank or price into numbers without installing anything: the web calculators from Kindlepreneur, TCK Publishing or BookBloom.

Chrome extensions for researching on Amazon
These work on Amazon’s own pages, so you research while you browse instead of in a separate app.
Niche Hound Ours
- Under each book on Amazon.com search pages: sales rank for every edition, estimated monthly sales as a range, and estimated author royalty for independently published books.
- Flags indie vs traditionally published and Kindle Unlimited books, and gives each search a 0–100 opportunity score.
- Keyword ideas from Amazon’s own search suggestions, which you can copy or download.
- Limits: Amazon.com only. No keyword search volume and no category finder.
BookBeam Extension Lite
- Shows sales rank, and averages for rank, reviews, price and competitors, on search results, category, book and author pages.
- Customisable columns and one-click CSV export.
- Limits: BookBeam doesn’t publish the Lite limits, or which estimates are paid-only. Paid plans start at $29/month billed yearly ($47 monthly).
Titans Quick View (Self Publishing Titans)
- On Amazon search pages: average sales rank, price and reviews, plus a keyword or niche score and a data download.
- Works on all Amazon marketplaces. Self Publishing Titans also lists free web tools, including a sales-rank calculator and royalty calculator.
- Limits: the site offers a free start but doesn’t state the free search limits. Paid plans run $20–$90/month, with 300–600 extension searches a month.
DS Amazon Quick View
- Adds sales rank and seller information to Amazon search results and bestseller pages; hover over a product for details.
- Built for Amazon sellers in general, not books specifically, so there are no sales or royalty estimates.
- Limits: the free version works only on amazon.com. The Extended version ($25 one-time) adds other Amazon sites, price history, CSV export and, for books, publisher and page count.
BookBloom
- The extension adds sales-rank-to-sales estimates on book pages and a niche viability score based on the top 20 search results.
- Free web tools include a sales rank calculator, KENP calculator and print cost calculator.
- Limits: BookBloom says it’s free with no premium tiers (it sells a separate template bundle). The extension was last updated in November 2025.
Amazon Book Research Helper
- At the top of a book’s Amazon page: a self-published flag, rank, rating, reviews per week, page count and estimated word count.
- Links to sales calculators and rank history.
- Limits: works one book page at a time rather than across a whole search. Last updated November 2025.
KDP Miner
- Analyzes up to 45 keywords in a batch: titles, sales rank, reviews, publisher and publication date, with self-published books flagged.
- Covers 11 Amazon marketplaces, with Excel export.
- Limits: the listing says it’s free, but its website is currently password-protected, so we couldn’t confirm limits. Last updated September 2025.
Free keyword tools
AMZ Suggestion Expander
- Expands Amazon’s search suggestions, grouped by where the extra words appear, in 9 Amazon marketplaces.
- Limits: the free version has no search volume. Pro ($9.97/month) adds volume estimates, trends and export.
Keyword Tool Dominator: Amazon Keyword Tool
- Amazon autocomplete suggestions with a 0–100 popularity score; set the department to Books for KDP.
- Limits: 2 free searches a day, or 2 more with a free account. It doesn’t show search volume.
Free calculators (no install)
Kindlepreneur calculators
- Sales rank calculator for ebooks, paperbacks and hardcovers in 12 Amazon marketplaces; the page says it’s powered by Publisher Rocket’s data.
- KDP royalty calculator and KENP (Kindle Unlimited) calculator.
TCK Publishing Amazon Book Sales Calculator
- Enter a sales rank and choose ebook or print for estimated daily and monthly sales.
- Limits: no date on the page, so it’s unclear how recently the model was updated.
Niche Hound calculators Ours
- Amazon sales rank calculator: sales ranges for Kindle, paperback and hardcover, using the same model as the extension.
- KDP royalty calculator: royalty per sale with printing and delivery costs, using KDP’s current US rules.

How we chose
- Free means free to keep using. Trials, money-back guarantees and “first month free” offers don’t count.
- Research, not tracking. Tools that only track your own books’ sales or reviews are left out.
- Still working. We left out tools whose websites are gone or parked, such as BkLNK and KDP Wizard.
- Checked at the source. Prices, limits, user counts and ratings come from each tool’s own website or Chrome Web Store listing on September 15, 2026. User counts are rounded by the Chrome Web Store.
A note on sales estimates
Nobody outside Amazon sees real sales figures, so every tool estimates them from sales rank, and different tools give different answers for the same book. Use any tool’s numbers to compare books and niches, not as a promise of income.
